Board Approves Supplies for All Students

Interim Superintendent Anna Shepherd announces that at last night’s special called meeting, the Floyd County Board of Education voted unanimously to purchase school supplies for every child who attends Floyd County Schools.

Shepherd says, "We’re excited to welcome our students and families back on August 30th by having reduced one barrier before they walk through the school doors. We will provide all preschool through 12th grade school supplies for 2021-2022.”  Continuing, Shepherd says, “The school district will use the ESSER II (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds) to purchase consumable items that each teacher requests from his/her supply list. Our board of education wants to help remove any socioeconomic barriers and assist with the challenging pandemic year we all experienced.”

In addition to school supplies, Shepherd talks about book bags saying, “Our 5th-12th grade students already receive a large backpack from the district that is used to hold their devices we provide. We will work with community partners who are champions for our students and families to provide backpacks for our preschool-4th grade students as well. These supplies will be distributed in class during the first week of school.”

Interim Superintendent Shepherd closed by saying, “We are striving to reduce as many barriers as possible for our families and students so that each child transitions smoothly back into our schools in August and every day. I’ve been on a “Listen and Learn” tour, visiting schools and talking with administrators about the needs of their schools, their dreams for their students and how we can best support them. After talking with our school folks, I am inspired by their passion and dedication to their students and it only seems fitting that while we are blessed with additional funds that we help with all supplies.”
