Anderson Begins New Role

Superintendent Anna Shepherd announces Serena Anderson has begun her new role as the Executive Officer of Instruction for Floyd County Schools.

Superintendent Shepherd comments, “Serena Anderson recognizes the importance of providing an exceptional educational experience to each of our students and families. She is very knowledgeable about our district and has a deep commitment to supporting the teachers and staff that are instrumental to the high achievement of our students. I am confident that her passion for education and her leadership abilities will help us strengthen our school district.”

Serena is in her 30th year as an educator. This Floyd County native began her educational career as a student at Wayland Elementary and went on to graduate from Allen Central High School. She has almost two decades experience at the classroom level and the rest of her career has focused on helping kids beyond the scope of a single classroom, regardless of the title. Beginning in 2011, Serena became a reading interventionist for students in grades 4-8. From there, she became a district level language arts instructional coach for students in grades 5-12 and then an assistant principal at the middle and high school levels before moving back to the district level as an instructional supervisor for students in grades K-12. Most recently Serena has been serving as an Educational Recovery Leader with the Kentucky Department of Education.

In her early years as a teacher, Serena sponsored the elementary cheerleading team, and coached the  academic team and speech team. She has served as the District writing lead, as a Master Trainer for KDE, and as the Co-Director of the Mountain Writing Project. Serena is also a Shipley Systems Certified Trainer, helping lead schools and districts to establish processes.

Anderson says, ““I am honored to be chosen to serve Floyd County Schools. This is my home school district! I care about this school district, the staff, and students because Floyd County has always been home to me. I look forward to working with Superintendent Shepherd, central office staff, school administrators and teachers to help provide our students the very best education our schools can offer.”

Superintendent Shepherd closed by saying, “We are happy to add another strong member as we build our team to be exceptional for students. Serena’s experience as a recovery leader will be a great asset as we focus on closing any existing gaps for students. With the leadership of Serena and our instructional leaders, we will continue to grow to be better educators.”
